Australia has a strong Bharatanatyam presence in Sydney and Melbourne, and very little of it anywhere else. Families in Perth, Adelaide, Canberra or regional Queensland routinely tell us there is simply no classically trained teacher within reach. Nrithyakshetra teaches Australian students live from Bengaluru, in small batches, following the same graded syllabus as our studio.

Class Timings for Australia

Australia is ahead of India, 4.5 hours on the east coast and 2.5 hours in Perth, so our afternoon and evening classes fall in your evening.

Perth and Adelaide get the best of this timetable: both weekday batches land in the evening and the Sunday class in the late afternoon. On the east coast the weekday batches run late at night, so Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane families generally take the Sunday class and, if they want a second session, a dedicated slot we schedule with them. Add an hour to every east-coast time during daylight saving.

Western Australia is the easiest part of the country for us to teach into, at only 2.5 hours ahead. The east coast is the harder case and we say so plainly rather than pushing families into an 11 PM class, the Sunday session plus a dedicated slot is the arrangement that actually lasts.

Time zones covered: AEST on the east coast, ACST central, AWST in Western Australia. Local times above are shown for summer time where a country observes it. If none of these suit your household, tell us the window that does, we open a dedicated slot when a few families in one zone ask for the same time.

Where Our Australia Students Are

The Australian Indian community has grown enormously through skilled migration from South India, and the children are usually born or raised in Australia. What parents ask us for most often is not performance polish but rootedness, that the child understands what she is dancing, and can say the Sanskrit and Tamil words correctly.

How Our Online Classes Work

Free trial first

We start with a free trial session at a Australia-friendly time so you can meet the guru and test your setup before paying anything.

Live, never recorded

Every class is a live video session. The guru watches your posture and rhythm on screen and corrects you in the moment, exactly as in the studio.

The same graded syllabus

Adavus, mudras, tala, abhinaya and margam repertoire, in the same order our HSR Layout students learn them, plus Sanskrit shlokas if you want them.

Small batches

Batches are deliberately small so every student is seen and corrected each week. One-to-one slots are available if you prefer.

Online Bharatanatyam Classes in Australia, FAQs

Do you offer online Bharatanatyam classes in Australia?

Yes. Nrithyakshetra teaches students across Australia through live online Bharatanatyam classes, taught from our academy in HSR Layout, Bengaluru. Classes are live video sessions with a classically trained guru, not pre-recorded videos, and follow the same graded curriculum as our studio batches. We teach students in Sydney (Parramatta, Wentworthville, Harris Park), Melbourne (Point Cook, Tarneit, Clayton), Perth, Brisbane and elsewhere in Australia.

What are the class timings for students in Australia?

Our timetable is Wednesday and Friday, 5:00 to 6:00 PM and 6:00 to 7:00 PM IST, plus a longer 90-minute Sunday class from 3:00 to 4:30 PM IST. In Australia that works out as, Wednesday & Friday: 9:30 PM - 10:30 PM Sydney / Melbourne / Brisbane (AEST) (5:00 to 6:00 PM IST); Wednesday & Friday: 10:30 PM - 11:30 PM Sydney / Melbourne / Brisbane (AEST) (6:00 to 7:00 PM IST); Sunday: 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM Sydney / Melbourne / Brisbane (AEST) (3:00 to 4:30 PM IST).

How much do online Bharatanatyam classes cost from Australia?

Fees are quoted in AUD ($) and charged monthly, with no joining fee and no long contract. WhatsApp us at +91 96116 21086 for the current fee for your child's age and level, and start with a free trial class before you decide anything.

Are online classes as effective as in-person classes for Australia-based students?

For technique, theory, abhinaya and steady graded progress, live online classes work very well, the guru sees your posture on screen and corrects it in real time, and batches are kept small so every student is watched. Our Australia-based students follow the same syllabus, the same assessments and the same repertoire as students in our Bengaluru studio.

Can complete beginners and young children in Australia join?

Yes. We teach children from age five, teenagers, adult beginners with no dance background at all, and trained dancers returning after a break. Beginners in Australia start with the foundational adavus and basic tala, exactly as our studio beginners do.

What do we need at home in Australia to join an online class?

A laptop, tablet or phone with a camera, a reliable internet connection, and about two metres of clear floor space, a hard floor is better than carpet. Nothing else. We walk you through the setup during the free trial session.

Do you teach Sanskrit shlokas as well as dance to students in Australia?

Yes. Our shlokas and devotional recitation programme is available online alongside the dance, and many families in Australia take both, for children growing up outside India it is often the part parents value most.

How do we book a free trial online class from Australia?

WhatsApp +91 96116 21086 telling us your city in Australia, the student's age and any previous dance experience. We will confirm which batch suits your time zone and arrange a free trial class, there is no payment and no commitment before that.
