For Indian families in the United States, keeping a child connected to Bharatanatyam usually means either a long weekend drive to the nearest teacher or settling for whoever happens to be in the county. Nrithyakshetra teaches US students live from Bengaluru, the same classically trained guru, the same graded Kalakshetra-rooted curriculum our studio students follow, taught in a small live batch on video rather than through pre-recorded videos.

Class Timings for United States

India is 9.5 to 12.5 hours ahead of the United States depending on your state and the season, so our Indian evening classes land in your morning.

For the East Coast and the Midwest, the Wednesday and Friday batches fall in the early morning, which families with older students often manage before the school day. The Sunday batch is very early on the East Coast and earlier still on the West Coast, so for most US families, and for Pacific-time families in particular, we arrange a dedicated overseas slot rather than pretending an existing batch fits. Tell us the window that works in your household and we will build the batch around it.

The United States is the one place where our standard timetable needs real thought, and we would rather say so than sell you a slot that quietly stops working in month three. East Coast families can often take a weekday morning batch; West Coast families almost always need a dedicated slot, which we open as soon as two or three families in the same zone ask for the same window.

Time zones covered: Eastern, Central, Mountain and Pacific. Local times above are shown for summer time where a country observes it. If none of these suit your household, tell us the window that does, we open a dedicated slot when a few families in one zone ask for the same time.

Where Our United States Students Are

The American Indian community is the largest classical-dance-hungry diaspora anywhere, and it is also the most spread out. A family in Edison has ten arangetram-experienced teachers within an hour; a family in Charlotte, Phoenix or suburban Michigan often has none. Our US students come from both situations, some because there is nothing local, others because they want training rooted directly in an Indian parampara rather than one filtered through two generations abroad.

How Our Online Classes Work

Free trial first

We start with a free trial session at a United States-friendly time so you can meet the guru and test your setup before paying anything.

Live, never recorded

Every class is a live video session. The guru watches your posture and rhythm on screen and corrects you in the moment, exactly as in the studio.

The same graded syllabus

Adavus, mudras, tala, abhinaya and margam repertoire, in the same order our HSR Layout students learn them, plus Sanskrit shlokas if you want them.

Small batches

Batches are deliberately small so every student is seen and corrected each week. One-to-one slots are available if you prefer.

Online Bharatanatyam Classes in United States, FAQs

Do you offer online Bharatanatyam classes in United States?

Yes. Nrithyakshetra teaches students across United States through live online Bharatanatyam classes, taught from our academy in HSR Layout, Bengaluru. Classes are live video sessions with a classically trained guru, not pre-recorded videos, and follow the same graded curriculum as our studio batches. We teach students in New Jersey (Edison, Jersey City), New York, Bay Area (Fremont, San Jose, Sunnyvale), Dallas & Irving and elsewhere in United States.

What are the class timings for students in United States?

Our timetable is Wednesday and Friday, 5:00 to 6:00 PM and 6:00 to 7:00 PM IST, plus a longer 90-minute Sunday class from 3:00 to 4:30 PM IST. In United States that works out as, Wednesday & Friday: 7:30 AM - 8:30 AM US Eastern (EDT) (5:00 to 6:00 PM IST); Wednesday & Friday: 8:30 AM - 9:30 AM US Eastern (EDT) (6:00 to 7:00 PM IST); Sunday: 5:30 AM - 7:00 AM US Eastern (EDT) (3:00 to 4:30 PM IST).

How much do online Bharatanatyam classes cost from United States?

Fees are quoted in USD ($) and charged monthly, with no joining fee and no long contract. WhatsApp us at +91 96116 21086 for the current fee for your child's age and level, and start with a free trial class before you decide anything.

Are online classes as effective as in-person classes for US-based students?

For technique, theory, abhinaya and steady graded progress, live online classes work very well, the guru sees your posture on screen and corrects it in real time, and batches are kept small so every student is watched. Our US-based students follow the same syllabus, the same assessments and the same repertoire as students in our Bengaluru studio.

Can complete beginners and young children in United States join?

Yes. We teach children from age five, teenagers, adult beginners with no dance background at all, and trained dancers returning after a break. Beginners in United States start with the foundational adavus and basic tala, exactly as our studio beginners do.

What do we need at home in United States to join an online class?

A laptop, tablet or phone with a camera, a reliable internet connection, and about two metres of clear floor space, a hard floor is better than carpet. Nothing else. We walk you through the setup during the free trial session.

Do you teach Sanskrit shlokas as well as dance to students in United States?

Yes. Our shlokas and devotional recitation programme is available online alongside the dance, and many families in United States take both, for children growing up outside India it is often the part parents value most.

How do we book a free trial online class from United States?

WhatsApp +91 96116 21086 telling us your city in United States, the student's age and any previous dance experience. We will confirm which batch suits your time zone and arrange a free trial class, there is no payment and no commitment before that.
