Learning Bharatanatyam in Kolkata

Kolkata's dance culture runs deep but leans towards Rabindra Nritya, Odissi and Kathak. Bharatanatyam has a committed following, the South Indian community around Lake Gardens and the sabhas keep it alive, yet teachers with a full graded margam syllabus are few.

Our Kolkata families are usually South Indian households settled in Salt Lake, New Town or Jadavpur who want their children trained in the form they themselves grew up with, taught by someone inside the tradition.

How the Classes Work

Free trial first

We start with a free trial class so you can meet the guru and see the teaching style before paying anything.

Live, never recorded

Every session is a live video class. The guru watches your araimandi and rhythm on screen and corrects you in the moment.

Three sessions a week

Two weekday classes plus the longer Sunday session, so new material is taught and then consolidated rather than rushed.

The full tradition

Adavus, mudras, tala, abhinaya and margam repertoire, with Sanskrit shlokas available alongside.
